Due to Turtle Nesting Season, Sunrise Rides will Start at 7 am from May 1st – October 1st.

The Turtle Nesting season on Amelia Island, FL, is a unique and fascinating natural phenomenon that takes place annually from May to October. Amelia Island, located on the northeastern coast of Florida, is known for its pristine beaches and is a popular nesting site for several species of sea turtles, including the Loggerhead, Green, and Leatherback turtles.

During the nesting season, female sea turtles make their way to the beaches of Amelia Island to lay their eggs. They emerge from the ocean at night and use their powerful flippers to dig a hole in the sand, where they lay their eggs. After covering the nest with sand, they return to the sea, leaving their precious cargo behind.

The entire process is mesmerizing to witness, but it’s important to remember that sea turtles are a protected species, and disturbing them or their nests is strictly prohibited. Beachgoers and visitors to Amelia Island are urged to follow local regulations and guidelines to ensure the safety and conservation of these magnificent creatures.

Once the eggs are laid, they are left to incubate in the warm sand for about 45 to 60 days, depending on the species. During this time, the eggs are vulnerable to natural predators, erosion, and other environmental factors. The gender of the baby turtles is determined by the temperature in the nest, with warmer temperatures producing more females and cooler temperatures producing more males.

When the time comes, the baby turtles hatch and make their way to the ocean, guided by the natural light of the moon reflecting off the water. This is a critical and challenging time for the hatchlings, as they face numerous obstacles, such as predators and artificial lighting on the beach that can disorient them. Once they reach the ocean, they embark on a perilous journey, facing various challenges as they grow and mature.

The Turtle Nesting season on Amelia Island is not only a wonder of nature but also a reminder of the importance of conservation efforts to protect these endangered species. The local community, along with organizations and volunteers, work tirelessly to monitor and protect the nests, educate the public, and promote responsible beach practices to ensure the survival of sea turtles for future generations to enjoy.

After nearly 30 years, Amelia Island Horseback Riding is excited to showcase our new website & logo design!  Not to worry though, we are still Fernandina Beach’s premier horseback riding experience.  We pride ourselves on continually providing all the same services and rides that our satisfied customers are used to receiving.

We have carefully reconstructed our website for easier use and bookings as well as updated our design and color scheme.  To provide quick and easy access to your amazing horseback riding adventure look for the pink and black horse logo on our truck and our guides wearing the pink shirts.

Pink has long been associated with words such as charm, politeness, tenderness, sweetness, childhood, femininity, and, of course, romance.  So, choosing this as our new, signature color fit perfectly!  Our company and employees have been thanked countless times for their sweet, polite, & charming personalities both when making reservations and during the riding adventure. The horses have a childhood sweetness to them, and our guides carefully match each rider and horse personality to ensure the best riding experience possible.  Romance is requested often, and we are proud to provide private rides with special surprises.  Lastly, we are proudly owned and operated by both a woman, and her Veteran husband.
